Eric Church Inspires Like No Politician Has
As I was wondering through the rabbit hole that YouTube can be from time to time, I came across Eric Church’s performance from CBS’ “ACM Presents: Our Country” show on Sunday night. It’s for a song I hadn’t heard, “Never Break Heart,” so I figured I’d give it a listen.
As much as I like the song (full disclosure, I’m in the tank for everything Church does. He’s an under appreciated musical genius-IMHO), it’s the message that precedes the song that struck my heart most. And notice that this was not coming from “Chief,” the on-stage, sunglass-wearing, Hell-raising, performer we all know and love.
“I have hope and you should have hope because since the beginning of time, people have gathered. They’ve gathered for fellowship. They’ve gathered for worship. They’ve gathered for prayer. They’ve gathered for song. They’ve gathered for communion. They’ve gathered for grief.
But they’ve gathered. And we will gather again.
The important thing to remember is to not fear, to be brave, and to endure.”
These words of inspiration were not spoken by a politician, but by an man, son, brother, husband, father, and artist. And I’ve not felt better about ANYTHING said in New York or Washington during this crisis than this from a son of Granite Falls, NC.
Oh, and the song is pretty damn good too.
