Tim McGraw Sings Keith Whitley Using Whitley’s Guitar
The first thing that struck me about this was, “Whoa…I don’t know if I’ve ever seen Tim McGraw even hold a guitar, much less play one!” I mean, seriously, do you remember ever seeing Tim play? Okay, then. I’m not crazy.
Anyway, the second thought that came to mind was, “If Tim’s playing a guitar, this HAS to be special.”
And it is.
For the Country Music Hall of Fame’s BIG NIGHT (At the Museum), McGraw covered the all-time classic, “Don’t Close Your Eyes.” That alone would be special as this is an all-time song, from a legendary all-time artist (GAWD I love Keith Whitley music), sung by a modern legend (Tim).
However, the kicker is Tim’s using Keith’s very own C.W. Parsons guitar that Whitley “bought in his home state of Kentucky for a dollar and a handshake.”
Now, I’m not going to say it’s up to the original, as in my opinion NO ONE could live up to the original, but it is REALLY, REALLY good.
Thanx @countrymusichof for inviting me to be part of #BigNightAtTheMuseum. Keith Whitley bought this guitar for a dollar and a handshake.....I’ve been covering this song as long as I remember, but I’ll never forget playing it on Keith's CW Parsons. https://t.co/nCk1g1DElx
