Mark Your Calendar For May 14 And “The Woman In The Window”
In 1954 Alfred Hitchcock made what is considered by many to be his greatest film, “Rear Window,” starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly. In it, Stewart is a photographer recovering from a broken leg who becomes somewhat of a voyeur looking out the window of his apartment across the courtyard. However, this comes back to haunt him. I’m not going to spoil it for you. If you haven’t seen this movie, DO IT!
The reason I bring this classic up is that it appears many elements of it have been borrowed/adapted for modern times in a new movie, “Woman in the Window,” debuting on Netflix May 14th. This movie was originally scheduled for release nearly two years ago (Oct./2019), but due to some sketchy test screenings and subsequent re-editing (this combination is never a good sign-btw), its release was delayed by a year. AND…we all know what happened to movie releases in 2020. Anyway, in this interpretation, Amy Adams (pictured above) plays an agoraphobic psychologist who befriends a neighbor across the street from her New York City brownstone condo. Then, her own life is turned upside down when the woman disappears and she suspects foul play.
Check out the cast list in the movie: Amy Adams, Gary Oldham, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Anthony Mackie, Julianne Moore…are you kidding me? How can this be bad? I think it looks awesome and there’s no way I’m not watching this on May 14th…maybe as a double feature with Hitchcock’s “Rear Window.”
