Carolina Courage Players Score During Women’s Olympic Soccer Game
We have some Carolina Courage players making soccer history for team U.S.A. Midfielder Sam Mewis and Forward Lynn Williams both helped the Women’s Team U.S.A. The soccer team takes home a win. Both women scored during the Friday Netherlands match.
Sam Mewis was selected as the 18-member of the Team U.S.A while Lynn Williams was picked as an alternate. Both women play for the North Carolina women’s soccer team the Carolina Courage. Mewis signed a two-year contract with the Courage earlier this year, keeping her with the North Carolina team through 2023. Just this July, The National Women’s Soccer League named Williams the Player of the Month for the month of June by the NWSL Media Association.
During Friday’s game, Williams scored to put the U.S. up 2-1 back in the lead. Williams proved to be the star offensive weapon in the USA’s surprise Olympics debut. During the Olympics, this was actually her first game. The first of the USA’s goals was a cross she delivered, and the second, which gave the USA a momentary 2-1 lead, was a goal she scored.
As a result of this win, Team U.S.A. now advances to the Olympic soccer semifinals. You can see where to watch the next game here.
