Instead Of Washing Your Jeans, Freeze Them?
When I first read this, my reaction was simply, “WTH is this?!” I don’t know if this makes me “old,” but I’ve always been raised that you wear your jeans a few times (unless there’s heavy dirt/soiling), then you put em in the washing machine. Now, you can choose whether or not you want to use the dryer, but the washing machine is how you clean your jeans. Now, apparently, you can freeze them?
I’ve discovered this is actually a thing. In fact, this video is three years old. Apparently this was originally presented as a way to kill germs that cause your blue jeans to smell. The whole concepts is environmentally based (water conservation, etc.) and therefore thought to be a good idea. Well, think again.
Stephen Craig Cary is a University of Delaware expert on frozen microbes and says, “One might think that if the temperature drops well below the human body temperature [the bacteria] will not survive, but actually many will. Many are preadapted to survive low temperatures.”
So get your damn jeans out of the freezer, will ya? Your wife/mom keeps food in there! 😉 If you want to remove odors (btw-I’ve NEVER had jeans that retained odors), try hanging your denim outside or by a window or fan between washes. And if you want to conserve, and you don’t soil your jeans, just hold off on washing frequency. However, if you go this route, be sure to clean em up every 4-6 weeks…IN THE WASHING MACHINE!
