“Creed III” Trailer Is Intense
The legacy and history of the “Rocky” movies is really interesting. In the beginning, “Rocky” was the first of the modern “underdog against all odds” narratives in Hollywood. Think about how many movies you’ve seen that were made since 1976 that had that theme. Countless, right? And people forget…”Rocky” won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Then, to be honest, the movies became less about story and more about cartoon heroes/villains and music. The series ended with 2006’s “Rocky Balboa,” that got back to the story of the man. And it was good. Wait, did I say, “ended?” <g> In 2015, the series was rebooted with “Creed.” Michael B. Jordan created the role of “Adonis Creed,” the son of “Apollo Creed,” Rocky’s rival in the first two movies turned friend and trainer. Apollo’s death at the hands of Russian, “Ivan Drago” was the primary conflict of “Rocky IV.” Rocky became the mentor and trainer for Adonis. His role was further diminished (intentionally) in “Creed II” (where the opponent was Drago’s son). Rocky Balboa is nothing more than mentioned in the new “Creed III” due out this spring. The new trailer just dropped this afternoon and looks intense.
Not that the fight scenes of earlier “Rocky” films were chopped liver, but the ferocity in the ones in this movie? If the trailer is any indication, we all might be wincing with every landed punch in the theater! The film’s official synopsis from comingsoon.net reads “After dominating the boxing world, Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) has been thriving in both his career and family life,” says the synopsis. “When a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy, Damian (Jonathan Majors), resurfaces after serving a long sentence in prison, he is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring. The face-off between former friends is more than just a fight. To settle the score, Adonis must put his future on the line to battle Damian – a fighter who has nothing to lose.” Again, “Creed III” hits theaters-HARD-in March of 2023.
