Man Sues Country Club Over Refusal To Reward His Hole In One
A hole in one. For every golfer who has ever stepped on a tee box, it is the holy grail. I have friends who have played for decades and have never had one. Shoot, I have friends who have played for decades and never even seen one. I’ve had four (on average, probably a lot). However, I’ve witnessed fourteen (that IS a lot!). One of the great things about golfers and holes-in-one is that those that witness are as thrilled (well, almost) as those who make the shot. The last one I saw in person was during the Covid summer of 2020, from my best friend, Jeff.
Now, when you’re playing in charity tournaments, the hole in one can take on a whole new meaning. It can mean big bucks and big prizes. I’ve seen people actually win cars…a Mercedes to be specific…by having the Golf Gods smile on them. Which leads to this story. Austin Clagett, of Conway, Arkansas, played in Morrilton Country Club’s “Tournament of the Century” this past weekend. Prior to the event, the club promoted a 2022 Ford F-150 4×4 Supercrew as a prize for the first person to hit a hole-in-one of the course’s 10th hole. That truck’s sticker was $53,595 and was allegedly donated by nearby Ford dealership, Jay Hodge Ford. Follow me so far? Okay, so here’s where the trouble begins. Jay Hodge Ford says they were unable to secure the necessary insurance for the vehicle in time for the tournament because they believed the vehicle was for display purposes only. All of this would have been fine and dandy if no one would have made an ace (which is 99.9% of the time-btw). Uh-oh. Austin Clagett drilled it. And when he went to claim his prize, the club refused to hand over the keys. Now, he’s filed suit.

There are three things I know for sure. One: Austin Clagett is gonna get his truck. Two: Austin Clagett will probably not be welcomed as a guest or member anytime soon at Morrilton Country Club. And three. Jay Hodge Ford won’t be sponsoring any hole in one contests going forward.
