The First Performance EVER Of All-Time Great Song Gives Goosebumps
There are some songs that cross all genres of music. No matter what your favorite is (rock, country, etc.) not only do you know these songs, but you can also probably sing some of them as well. For example, from the world of country music Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places,” or Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” are not strangers. And from the rock world, Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” is DEFINITELY on the list. I remember being in the theater watching “Almost Famous” when this scene happened.
As the travelers on the tour bus started singing, as I looked around, the whole theater was mouthing the words. And some people were even singing. It’s one of those songs. And let’s just call a spade, a spade. Elton John is a musical genius. The songs he wrote in his prime with lyricist, Bernie Taupin, in the early 1970s, have stood the test of time. On a personal note, it’s beyond an all-time favorite. The video below is incredible. It is the first EVER performance of “Tiny Dancer.” And Elton’s amazing musical talent is on full display as he takes you through his process in writing the song. Truly, this is an amazing watch.

Just about every man can relate to having a “Tiny Dancer” in his life at one time or another. And if you’re wondering, yes, she was/is a real person. I mentioned Bernie Taupin earlier. He wrote the lyrics that Elton then wrote music to match. The “Tiny Dancer” here is Maxine Taupin, Bernie’s now ex-wife. In 2019 she told the New York Post, “”I had been into ballet as a little girl and sewed patches on Elton’s jackets and jeans” (both are referenced in the song). Can you imagine what it must have been like the first time you heard THIS song knowing it was about you? Can you imagine EVERY time you hear it? Wow…right?
