Why Cats Are So Active During The Night
Adorable black and white cat.
Cats like to sleep. No doubt about it. They sleep twice as much as humans and they can fall asleep in just about any place at any time. If you’re a cat owner you’d like them to sleep at night. According to Cat-Friendly Homes, there is actually a reason that your furry friend may be keeping you up all night running through the halls.
The reason it seems like your cat is up all night is because they’re crepuscular. This means they’re naturally more active at dawn and dusk. This means that these times of the day are when your cat is ready to do all the things most of us do during the day. It is also the time that your cat is most likely to seek out your attention.
Humans tend to have our deepest level of sleep at pre-dawn hours. This means it’s particularly disruptive when your cat comes to your bed at this time thinking it’s time to play. This type of behavior can be more intense in the springtime when daylight length extends and pre-dawns and dusk times come earlier and later in the day.
What can you do about it?
The best thing to do is to keep your cat stimulated and busy during the daytime so boredom doesn’t result in oversleeping. You want them worn out by nighttime. Try and wear them out before bedtime. That can help your cat sleep better through the night. If you have a kitten it’s really important. If your cat does bother you during the night while you’re trying to sleep make sure not to reward the behavior by playing or giving them food. so you don’t want to reinforce this ‘bad’ behavior. Play with them before bed, don’t let them sleep too much daily, and you should be a happy cat owner.
How Expensive Is Owning A Cat?
Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Albert Schweitzer once said, “There are two means of refuge from the misery of life—music and cats.” With 42.7 million American households owning a cat, there is truth to Schweitzer’s words. Cats are popular pets known for their independence and intelligence. Owning one is not only a commitment requiring time, but money as well. Cat expenses can quickly add up.
To understand how expensive owning a cat is, ManyPets analyzed data from a 2020 survey conducted by TD Ameritrade/Harris Poll among 320 cat owners with at least $10,000 in investable assets. The survey provided a breakdown in cat ownership costs by category as well as the owner’s generation, and ManyPets ranked these categories by the average spend across all three generations.
Expenses include necessities that help keep cats healthy and happy. These include regular check-ups and high-quality food, along with things that are more fun than necessary, like Halloween costumes and over-the-top toys and treats. Some expenses such as pet insurance can mitigate other costs, like unforeseen emergencies or health treatment plans. Keep reading to discover more about the various expenses you can expect to run into when you own a furry feline.
