Jason Aldean Address “Try That In A Small Town” In Charlotte
Jason Aldean brought his high-energy show to Charlotte’s PNC Music Pavilion last night. And like just about every Jason Aldean headlining show at PNC I can remember, he played to a sold-out crowd. The setlist included some massive hits you know and love. From “She’s Country” to “Dirt Road Anthem” and “Hicktown”. Some of my personal favorite Jason Aldean songs, “Amarillo Sky” and “Crazy Town” also made the cut. And when you have as many massive hits as Aldean has, well you can’t include them all. So I was very happy to hear both of those songs. Another song that made the setlist? The highly publicized “Try That In A Small Town”.
I’ll spare you the story as if you’re reading this, I’d wager you’re familiar with the situation. The song though has received lots of love from Aldean’s fans and country fans as a whole. In fact, it has become his first-ever all-genre number one. And the reaction in Charlotte definitely reflected that. Early in the show he mentioned that he tries to limit his talking during the shows as to play as much music as possible. But that one thing would be addressed later in the set. And about 9 songs in Aldean slowed his always high-energy show down for a moment, to speak on recent events.
You can view his speech and the first verse and chorus of the song below:
The crowd was all about it and these moments were some of the loudest of the show. “People can say what they wanna say about me I truly don’t care”, Aldean said. And he’s definitely not afraid to speak his mind. He alludes in this speech and also said while talking to us backstage before the show that he never anticipated the song would be “controversial” more so that he hoped it would spark meaningful conversation. Instead, those who didn’t love the video did exactly what he also describes in the video above. “If someone doesn’t agree with you they will try to beat you don’t until you just submit to whatever it is they believe. But I ain’t that one to do that.”
“Try That In A Small Town” is already one of the biggest songs of the superstar’s nearly 20-year career on Broken Bow Records. It’s been “one hell of a ride and I don’t think it’s stopping anytime soon.”, Aldean said on stage last night. And that could be said in regards to the song but also his career as a whole. All in all, Jason Aldean delivered what we’ve come to expect from the hitmaker, a fast-paced show filled with song after song 18,000 people know all the words to. He’s won ACM Entertainer of the Year 3 times and it’s easy to see why. As I mentioned previously I don’t actually recall a headlining show of Aldean’s in Charlotte that wasn’t sold out. And I bet it will be a long time before that happens!
