Which North Carolina Towns Ban Kids Over 12 From Trick or Treating
Most kids are sort of over trick or treating by the time they reach a certain age. My kids were around 12 when they felt like they were too grown up to go door to door asking for candy. Which North Carolina towns actually ban kids over 12 from trick or treating.
There are North Carolina towns that ban trick or treaters over the age of 12. According to Channel 3 in Charlotte, the town of Apex actually bans it. There is an ordinance in place that makes it illegal for anyone over 12 to “trick or treat”. Some think it’s a good idea. Others think the ordinance doesn’t allow kids to be kids long enough at Halloween.
Check out section 14-18 of the Halloween restrictions in Apex. They state in part, “no person over the age of 12 shall engage in the practice of trick or treating at any time”.
According to Channel 3 the ordinance also says that no one is allowed to trick or treat in Apex over 9p.m.
This is nothing new there, the law has been on the books since the 70s. But the talk is strong all over the state. Whiteville, North Carolina wasn’t crazy about older kids trick or treating either. But they have since repealed their ordinance. Now the age limit is 16. To learn more about that get details from The News Reporter right here.
