This North Carolina Restaurant Ranks Among The ‘Most Legendary’ By Southern Living
This brings back memories. My husband and I had many dates here and that was a long time ago. This North Carolina restaurant ranks among the ‘most legendary’ by Southern Living. And I couldn’t agree more with this dubious honor.
When Southern Living says it, I believe it. Especially since I have experienced it for myself. Alexander Michael’s Restaurant and Tavern in Charlotte is a great place to go and meet friends, toss one back or have a delicious bite. So, it is an iconic spot in Charlotte’s fourth ward. Being called legendary is fitting and quite the well deserved honor. According to our source, Channel 9, Al Mike’s as it is commonly referred to is one of only two spots in the Carolinas included in the “South’s most legendary restaurants”.
The other restaurant named is in Charleston, South Carolina. It is a soul food restaurant called “Bertha’s Kitchen”. Sounds like another great place to try. Alexander Michael’s has been around for 40 years now and the building is historic. The structure dates back to the 1890’s. And this North Carolina restaurant ranks among the ‘most legendary’ by Southern Living.
One of the things we love about Alexander Michael’s is just how warm and cozy it is. It fits right into the architecture of Charlotte’s fourth ward. You literally feel like you are going over to a friend’s house. Today’s owner Steve Casner tells the Charlotte Observer, “This cozy space initially housed the Crowell-Berryhill Store when the building first opened in 1897. Order a boilermaker or half-pound burger while you admire the bar made from the oak doors that once led into Charlotte’s first skyscraper.”
Their tag line is “Your Neighborhood Tavern No Matter Where You Live”. This North Carolina restaurant ranks among the ‘Most Legendary’ by Southern Living. And by me. Enjoy! For more details, check out the story here from the Charlotte Observer.
