I can see why Ocracoke Island in North Carolina made the coveted list. This barrier coastal island is made up of 973 residents and was settled before the United States was even an official country. It’s roots date back to 1500s. If you haven’t been there yet you may have heard about it in House Beautiful or the Travel Channel. Of course if you grew up in North Carolina then this is a place you have heard of all your life.
Here’s what Far and Wide had to say about Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. The land is 13 miles long and 2 miles wide. It was home to Sir Walter Raleigh back in the 1500s . The infamous pirate, Blackbeard reportedly showed up and took up residence in the 1700s. All that is nice but that is not the reason why I love visiting Ocracoke Island.
We go for the wild horses! Granted most of the wild horses roaming the outer banks can be found in Corolla but Ocracoke has a beautiful wild horse preserve.
