3 Signs It’s Time To Find A New Doctor
Choosing the right doctor is extremely important when it comes to your health. However, knowing if your current doctor is right for you can be tricky. Luckily, CNBC Make It has three important signs that you can use to tell if it’s time to leave your doctor.
1. Your doctor isn’t asking questions
The first sign that your doctor might not be right for you is if they aren’t asking you the right questions. Dr. LaTasha Seliby Perkins says that if you go to your doctor with a health concern and they don’t ask questions about your symptoms or ask for more information it’s time to find a new doctor.
2.They don’t seem to listen
Another sign that you need a new doctor according to Dr. Seliby Perkins is if you don’t feel heard. It’s important to have a doctor that seems to actually listen to and care about your concerns. Feeling heard by your doctor should be a determining factor when deciding if they’re right for you.
3.Treatment isn’t working
If you get a diagnosis for a curable illness but aren’t getting any better with the treatment your doctor recommended it might be time to find a new doctor says Dr. Seliby Perkins. This can be a red flag for many reasons, your doctor may have brushed off your symptoms and diagnosed you with something that’s incorrect. You might also have the right diagnosis, but have a doctor who doesn’t understand how to help you. Sometimes it’s a matter of just needing a second opinion or needing to see a specialist; in this situation your doctor should support you through the process and if they don’t it’s time to find a new one.
North Carolina Ranks As One Of The Worst States For Healthcare
If you weren’t thinking about healthcare before 2020 chances are you are now. I know insurance and healthcare costs are a definite source of frustration for me. In fact, I had that conversation over the weekend with a friend. Do you wonder where North Carolina stacks up when it comes to the state of healthcare? Healthcare Transformers recently conducted a study to rank healthcare across the country.
The study identified us healthcare hotspots where healthcare is both easily accessible and high quality. There are several metrics that were considered as they show a wide range of information, from official statistics to the opinions of residents.
The study analyzed a number of data points including the below to determine which are the best states to live in for healthcare:
- Number of hospitals in the state altogether
- The number of staffed beds in the state’s hospitals altogether
- Number of discharges
- Number of patient days
- Gross patient revenue
- Patient satisfaction
- Number of dentists per 100,000 people
- The number of deaths per 100,000 people annually
- Infant mortality rate
- Maternal mortality rate
- Life expectancy at birth
- Annual healthcare expenditure per capita in $USD
These metrics were then divided by the population to work out the number of hospitals etc. per capita, this allowed for the metrics to be compared state by state fairly. Each metric was ranked from 1-51 with the higher rank being given to the more favorable metric scores. These ranks were added together to show which state is the best “Health Hotspot”.
And guys, I hate to break it to you. Neither of the Carolinas did remotely well in this study. At all. How badly did they rank? Read on to find out.
