…And The Academy Award Goes To
As summer begins to turn to fall and then winter, this is the time that Hollywood turns from superheroes and sequels to films you might hear a lot about come Oscar time.
Case in point (no pun intented): “Just Mercy.”
This is the true story of young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan-pictured above), who following the completion of law school, eschews high-paying job offers to instead head to Alabama to help those wrongfully convicted on death row.
That’s where he comes into contact with Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), a man who was found guilty for the murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a lot of evidence to prove his innocence, and the only witness was a convicted felon who had a good reason to lie.
Helping is a local advocate Eva Ansley (Brie Larson), and together they take on the case-fighting local politics and blatant racism along the way.
This movie promises to be an emotional roller-coaster, and with two Academy Award winners (Foxx and Larson) and a previous nominee (Jordan), don’t be surprised if you hear A LOT about the film come award season.
“Just Mercy” opens in theaters in December.
