Dilworth Parking Nightmare Sold
It’s a rite of passage for many Charlotteans — getting towed or booted while visiting the Starbucks near the Key Man Building in Dilworth. Now the future of the property at the corner of East Boulevard and Scott Avenue is uncertain. The Dilworth parking nightmare has been sold for a whopping $13.75 million.
The sale affects five parcels including the Starbucks location and the Key Man office building. The property was purchased by SunCap Property Group, a real estate investment firm. It was formerly owned by Summit Healthcare group since 2019.
The Key Man building is Charlotte famous because of frequent complaints about predatory towing. The Starbucks on the corner generates most of the parking shortage. Patrons who dip in for a latte come back to towed or booted vehicles if they are parked in spots reserved for the Key Man Building.
According to a Twitter post by the Charlotte Ledger, a May 2023 rezoning would allow 300 apartments on the site. That would generate a lot more activity at an already busy intersection. It’s unclear what will become of the Starbucks franchise.
