A Maryland man is $580,000 richer after a clerk gave him the wrong lottery ticket by mistake. The unidentified Prince George’s County resident says he stopped at a gas station to purchase five Cash4Life tickets, but the clerk mistakenly handed him a ticket for a different game. Fox 5 DC says, the guy won a huge lottery prize from a ticket given to him by mistake.

“The attendant made a mistake and gave me a Multi-Match ticket instead,” the man says. “I was like, ‘Oh, a new guy.’ He was so apologetic.” But since the clerk was unable to void the ticket, the purchaser decided to accept his apology and keep the one he’d been given. It turned out to be one of the most profitable moves in his life.

A few days later, the man checked his numbers and discovered he was a winner.
