This major North Carolina road is closed for repairs. If you live and work in this part of Charlotte prepare for delays.

According to Channel 9, the Charlotte Fire Department says that a stretch of Providence Road will be shut down.  You can expect the closure from Strawberry Hill Drive to Meadowood Lane until Tuesday. Charlotte Water will be working on repairs in that area. Expect all lanes to be closed except for one each way for drivers.

It’s unknown if this is a planned repair or if an emergency incident occured. This of course will be a major pain for people who have to travel this stretch of road for work or have a home in the area.

This major North Carolina Road is closed for repairs. Alternatives to this road closing may be Park, Randolph and Monroe Roads. And of course any major road could need closing for one reason or another. Traffic and congestion are reasons why we moved to York County, South Carolina. We can literally hit Hwy 161 from Clover to York and maybe pass five cars along the way. And this is in drive time. More people more traffic.

For us, it is worth the 45 minute drive to from Clover to Charlotte. Because on the weekends the slower pace and fewer people suit us just fine.  There is so much to love about big city life though. There are more job opportunities and certainly more things to do. But when you get tired of the people and the traffic consider one of the wonderful smaller communities in the area. Lucky for all of us. There is something for just about everyone.

But there are still some safe roads out there. But others, if you can it may just be best to completely avoid. This list compiled by EarnSpendLive features the most dangerous roads in the country, based on the average number of fatalities that occur each year. Many of these roads see millions of drivers each year, making fatal crashes inevitable.

  • North Carolina I-95

    I-95, North Carolina

    Located in the eastern part of the state Interstate 95 is the most dangerous accounting for the most traffic fatalities. 181.71 miles of the 1,280-mile-long thoroughfare go through North Carolina. An average of 24 deaths occur annually.

    It’s no surprise that 95 also is the deadliest in South Carolina. An average of 30 people die yearly on the South Carolina section of the interstate.

    Around 14 motorists per year perish on State Route 11 the 376-mile-long highway that stretches across the entire length of the state.

    One of the longest stretches of road in the Sunshine State takes travelers from Key West all the way up the eastern coast. US 1 isn’t just the deadliest in Florida it’s the worst in the entire country with 108 fatal incidents a year.

    Northbound 1-87 begins in NYC and extends through much of rural New York. About 19 fatalities occur on the road each year.
