Candy Corn Love Or Hate
This debate pops up every Halloween. Do you love or hate Candy Corn? I myself love it! Despite jokes and memes that the best thing to do with Candy Corn is throw it away, more than 35 million pounds are produced every year. Brach’s has a hold on 85% of the candy corn market and says it produces about 7 billion pieces of the stuff each year. That comes to $73 million worth of candy corn. So, someone, somewhere must enjoy the confection. It’s one of the most devisive treats of the season, but it didn’t start as a Halloween candy. The unofficial inventor of the candy created it in the 1880’s. The candy company that first marketed it, did so as “Chicken Feed” because of the resemblance to corn. It’s corn! Although, it doesn’t “have the juice.” I couldn’t resist. The intention was to entice farmers to consume it as a year-round treat. It morphed into a Halloween treat in the 1950’s.
As for the correct way to eat candy corn, that’s a debate, too. More than half of consumers vote to eat the piece all in one bite, by the handful. Sixteen percent say start by devouring the yellow tip. I guess the rest are like me. Start with the larger white end and work your way down. Either way, it seems candy corn isn’t going away no matter how you feel about it! If candy corn isn’t your jam, perhaps something pumpkin is. Everybody likes pumpkin, right?!
