New Carolina Panthers Head Coach Kicks Player Out Of The Game
Steve Wilks will not get the permanent head coaching job with the Carolina Panthers. He’s basically auditioning for the opportunity to do so in the future with another NFL team based on how he handles the dumpster fire that is the Panthers current situation in the wake of Matt Rhule’s dismissal. Once thing he earned from me this week was respect. Wide Receiver Robbie Anderson apparently crossed the line with the team’s Wide Receiver’s Coach during Sunday’s loss in Los Angeles. And for Coach Wilks, enough was enough.
“No one is bigger than the team.” This is a mantra that has been drilled into every athlete’s head by every coach since the beginning of time. It was reiterated by Coach Wilks in his post-game press conference. I like how he handled this all the way around. By sending Robbie Anderson to the showers early, and in front of everyone on the team, in the stands, and watching on TV, it sent a message. And in the press conference, by refusing to dwell on it and insisted on moving forward, it sent another.

I don’t care what business you’re in. For there to be success, there must be leadership. For there to be success there must be a chain of command and discipline within the ranks. Carolina Panthers interim head coach, Steve Wilks put all this on display Sunday. He’s managing a dreadful situation. Chances are it’s not going to get any better. However, so far, his actions tell me the team is in a lot better place with him than his predecessor to get it done.
