Are You Ready For A Candy Corn Grilled Cheese Sandwich?
Newsweek recently gave this history lesson on Candy Corn. “A fall staple, candy corn has been in production since the late 1880s. First introduced under the name Chicken Feed, by the first half of the 20th century, candy corn had become a popular penny candy. While candy wasn’t closely associated with Halloween at the time, it did appear more around the fall. By the 1950s, candy corn had become a staple for Halloween. Today there is even a National Candy Corn Day to honor the sweet treat on October 30.” Let me preface everything that follows with this statement: I love candy corn. So does everyone in my home. Further, that same delicious taste is found in those little candy pumpkins that we can eat by the bag full. One reason we look forward to fall is candy corn. You can include it with popcorn for a sweet and savory snack. It’s a great garnish for seasonal cocktails. All that being said, I believe I’ve got to join the rest of the internet in calling a halt to THIS.

“The Vulgar Chef” is responsible for this concoction. One trip to his website and you see this is nothing compared to some of his other food combinations. After all, this is the man who brought you “Bologna Pie” and “Spam Ice Cream.” In case you missed it, my man just took two pieces of bread, spread mayonnaise, added candy corn and cheese…then grilled it. If you’re feeling your last meal making its way back up, you’re not alone. Some of the online reactions? “This might be the worst thing I’ve seen all year.” “Illegal activity.” And my personal favorite, “You’re the worst person I know.” Kyle Marcoux is the creative force behind “The Vulgar Chef” alias and to Newsweek describes his alter ego’s activity as “an obscure brand born out of my passion for creating unique and ‘alarming’ food content.” Well, we do agree on one thing here. The word “alarming” is a perfect fit. <g>
