South Carolina High Schoolers Can Win Cash And Here’s How
Kids and adults of all ages perk up when the allure of cash is on the table. However, it really appeals to teens on a budget. Now, South Carolina High Schoolers have a chance to win cash prizes with a statewide project underway. According to ABC News 4, high-schoolers in the state can submit a 2 minute or less film to the South Carolina Film Commission for a chance to win. The Commission asks students to use playing cards as a prop worked in naturally to the short film story. The Commission Director says the Young Filmmakers project “gives students a platform to develop and show off their skills and expose them to career opportunities in the field.”
Members of the film industry will judge entries based on quality of script, story, production value, design, style and overall impact. The Commission plans to show films with a top 10 rating at a ceremony in the spring. And, here’s the payoff! The top three filmmakers will win $500, $300 and $200 cash prizes. South Carolina high schoolers who want to participate need to submit entries by midnight Monday, March 27. So, any aspiring young filmmakers should get those creative juices flowing. You never know who might turn out to be the next famous filmmaker. I remember an intern we had on our radio show in Birmingham used to dabble in short films. Although we gave him some good natured ribbing about living in his parents’ basement at the time, he made a go of it. And, turns out he now lives and works in Hollywood as a digital effects artist on films you probably saw in theaters! We still keep in touch, and we’re so proud! Go here for more info on entries.
