Like many things that paused during the pandemic, the St. Patrick’s Day parade and festival did also. However, the reason for cancellation in 2022 concerned the health of the original organizers of the event. Frank and Linda Hart started the event in 1997. Although, Frank Hart’s battle with Parkinson’s Disease caused the family to put their focus on his health, ultimately canceling the parade. But, according to the Charlotte Observer, the Charlotte, North Carolina celebration is back next month. The festival features the Grandfather Mountain Highlanders Pipe Band. You can expect marching band and horses along with 7 foot tall Irish Wolfhounds. And, this year’s celebration takes place Saturday, March 11. Committee general chairman Rory Wall says an Irish family numbering around 200 may attend. Of course, it wouldn’t be a festival without food. So, expect craft and food vendors, too. Also, guests will enjoy traditional Irish fare, including bangers and mash and corned beef and cabbage. The grand marshal duties will be handled by Jim Manning, who hails from Ireland. And, he serves as treasurer of the Notre Dame Club of Charlotte.
In years past, the St. Patrick’s Day parade and festival attracted 80,000 visitors along the route on Tryon St. Chairman Rory Wall plans to make Charlotte’s event the premiere parade between New York City and Savannah, Georgia. Savannah is well-known for it’s yearly event that draws huge crowds. It’s one of the biggest celebrations in America. Also, there’s a must see event on March 11 when the famous Forsyth park fountains get dyed green. The actual parade occurs on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17 at precisely 10:15 a.m. and lasts for several hours. And, the Budweiser Clydesdale horses participate as well. But, of course, not all of us can make it to Savannah’s celebration. So, why not stay close to home? The St. Patrick’s Day parade and festival return to Charlotte, North Carolina, Saturday March 11, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Experts Say These Are The 13 Best Things To Do In Charlotte North Carolina
Often times when you live somewhere it’s easy to get complacent and not take advantage of everything that location has to offer. And this list proves that for sure. I’ve lived in Charlotte for most of my life and still haven’t checked off everything on this list. And some of them I haven’t done since the school field trip days. This list, the 13 best things to do in Charlotte, was compiled by US News and World Report. It contains what their experts perceive as the best attractions in Charlotte. The heavy hitter tourist attractions of course made the list, though not all in the spots I would have guessed. Popular shopping areas Southpark Mall and Concord Mills mall were noticeably (at least to this shopping addict) missing.
And it also includes a few “under the radar” places that you may not have thought of as the best things to do in Charlotte. This includes a park, several museums, and even a food hall. So they next you find yourself bored and not sure what to do, give this list a look over and explore your city. You may just find your new favorite spot. Or be reminded of an old favorite you’d forgotten about. After all #CharlottesGotALot.
