Carly Pearce Talks Tim McGraw And Performing In Prisons
Carly Pearce is one of the treasures of country music right now. She is smack dab in the middle of what I think in my 35 years in the country radio business is the greatest period for female singer/songwriters EVER. Just off the top of my head let me give you a few names: Ella Langley, Megan Moroney, Lainey Wilson, Ashley McBryde, Ashley Cooke, Lauren Watkins, and Kelsea Ballerini. These are just a few that have come on the scene in the last few years and are treating us to music with most female honesty and emotion than I can every remember.
Nothing against the guys making country music right now, but I’m constantly blown away by the depth in the music these ladies are putting out right now. If you haven’t listened to Carly Pearce’s album “29” from top to bottom-do it now! At the time she was writing it, she was going through a very public and very devastating divorce from her husband of only one year, Michael Ray. The relatable emotion and pain is palpable. That record is nothing short of a masterpiece.
Carly Pearce’s new release is called “Hummingbird.” Its lead single, none of us can get enough of. “We Don’t Fight Anymore” is an instant classic and the meshing of her voice with Chris Stapleton’s is pure music magic.
Yesterday, Carly called in to promote her upcoming concert at Carowinds (Niko Moon and Hannah Ellis opening-btw) and we covered the gamut of topics from what it’s like to open for Tim McGraw (and have to endure his crazy person workout regimen), to her songwriting and that of her peers, to what it’s like to headline your own tour. And not to be missed? When Carly Pearce thinks “worst concert venue ever played,” trust me, hers in the leader in the clubhouse.
