Introducing The South Carolina Town Renamed Halloween, South Carolina Each Year
I’ve always loved this time of year. The Fall colors, cooler weather and Halloween. And, there’s a little town in South Carolina that takes its decorations so seriously that it changes its name to Halloween South Carolina each year. Let’s meet the town and see why it’s special.
Halloween South Carolina
The town happens to be Conway, South Carolina. It’s not far from Myrtle Beach. And, it’s home to Coastal Carolina University. My family has spent many vacations in nearby Myrtle Beach. And, my son has attended Coastal Carolina University since 2020.
We had always heard about the town’s transformation into Halloween South Carolina. But, we finally got a glimpse of it during a recent visit to a football game and celebration with our son. Conway truly is one of those little throwback towns you miss from yesteryear. It reminds me of the town I grew up in. There are cute little boutiques, shops, and places to grab a bite.
It’s the kind of place where everyone knows each other. Neighbors help one another. And, the businesses all back the local teams. We noticed that spirit on our recent visit. The streets of downtown are lined with flags bearing the university’s logo. Even the streets sport stamped engravings of the familiar ‘Chant,’ Chauncey.
And, this time of year, as if by magic, somewhere around 3000 pumpkins adorn the trees that line the streets of what is temporarily known as Halloween South Carolina. It’s a sight to see. And, there’s also a space transformed into a walkable graveyard with the theme from ‘The Exorcist’ piped in. The spooky season in Conway kicks off with a parade and festivities in mid September.
Plus, there’s a Conway couple getting attention for their decorations at their home. According to WPDE, Matt and Morgan Momyer are in their 7th year putting up the elaborate display they offer to visitors free of charge. It includes clowns, spooky lights, and fog. Many of the decorations are custom-built by Matt. And, it’s not to be missed. For more on their display and how to visit, see the full story.
But, it’s just one more reason Conway has earned the nickname of Halloween South Carolina!
