Wegman’s Ballantyne North Carolina One Step Closer
I remember earlier this year learning about Wegman’s plans to put a new location of the Rochester, New York based, family owned grocer in North Carolina. And, it seems things are moving right along for Wegman’s Ballantyne. Let’s learn where the project stands and the target date for opening.
Wegman’s Ballantyne
According to Charlotte Business Journal, the Wegman’s Ballantyne project just secured its first permits, land disturbance and site work. The reason this matters moving forward is it allows for demolition of buildings and installation of utilities and other infrastructure.
The North Community House Road location for Wegman’s Ballantyne will be roughly 110,000 square feet. And, the team plans to file building permits in the second quarter of 2025. The iconic grocery store familiar to so many, is a part of Northwood Investors ‘Ballantyne Reimagined’ project.
So, according to their timeline of finalizing the purchase and filing permits, the Wegman’s Ballantyne location would probably open third quarter of 2026. And, individuals involved with the project hinted they might be looking for a second Charlotte area location.
Earlier, I referred to the brand being familiar to many Charlotte residents. And, that’s because folks who relocate here from Northern regions where the brand is rooted remember it from childhood. And, as of now, if they want to visit Wegman’s locally, they make a trip to Raleigh.
Wegman’s Ballantyne is promising to offer all that fans of the store crave. They’ll find Zweigle’s Hot Dogs, house made subs and baked goods, seafood, pastas, and so much more. And, the market cafe will provide indoor and outdoor seating for customers enjoying their delicious foods.
And, in case you hadn’t noticed, the proposed site for Wegman’s Ballantyne puts the store very near the thriving Bowl At Ballantyne and The Amp. That’s the brand new spot at Johnston Road near 485 with a variety of restaurants. We visit often, with some of our favorites being Postino Wine Bar, Bossy Beulah’s and Honeysuckle Gelato. There’s also the huge location of Olde Mecklenburg Brewery.
The Bowl and neighboring Amp are great places to take the whole family. So, we’ll keep you updated on progress for the latest Ballantyne project!
