Mountain Dew Adds Fruitcake Flavor For The Holidays
A classic bad holiday food, fruitcake just...won't...go...away! WHY?! JUST STOP!
Mountain Dew adds fruitcake-flavored soda just in time for the holidays. Fruitcake comes with a storied history of jokes and even downright hatred. Trust me, I know this first hand. I grew up in a town famous for its fruitcake. In my hometown of Corsicana, Texas, world famous Collin Street Bakery produced fruitcakes for decades. Love ’em or hate ’em, their holiday confections shipped all over the world. The family business was wildly successful. We interviewed the CEO once about the treat that people love or hate. Bob McNutt never became jaded at the jokes. He was one of the most optimistic people ever. He took the good-natured jabs in stride. Over the years, the company had a newsworthy embezzlement scandal at the hands of an employee. That scandal even became the subject of a documentary. Before Covid hit, the story was being developed into a film starring Will Ferrell and Laura Linney. That project, put on hold, may still happen one day.
However, I digress. The limited-release soda bears the name Mountain Dew “Fruit Quake.” Expect to see Mountain Dew add Fruitcake Quake nationwide by November. This is Mountain Dew’s fourth holiday flavor in recent years. Some of those flavors include “Merry Mash-Up,” a cranberry-pomegranate concoction. And, last year there was “Gingerbread Snap’d.” Of course, we have not had a chance to try it yet. But, early reviews are mixed. One soda fan calls it “the inside of an arts and crafts store.” Try as I might, I don’t understand what that might taste like.
So, it seems this reviewer likes it! We’ll have to wait and see if it’s a hit or miss once it hits shelves. Meanwhile, what other companies offer new flavors for the holidays?
Food News New Products and Returning Favorites and Halloween Themes
We’ve got some fun food news for you including some new Halloween goodies! Food companies are all about marketing. Simply put themed products sell. And capitalizing off of anything popular can mean big bucks. That includes trending movies, tv shows, and even your basic holidays. And fall well we all know how much people love the season. Not just “pumpkin spice” either. You know good and well that those leaf-shaped tortilla chips are far superior to regular ones (someone else had to have seen that TikTok video right?). I’ll admit I’m a sucker for a good holiday product. That’s why many of these new releases caught my eye. Even if you aren’t a fall food lover we’ve got some other new products you may want to try as well!
We are talking about a Halloween favorite dessert, a spooky condiment, cookie dough, and more! I already needed to go grocery shopping so need to add these fun items to my list. And the one that I can’t get at a grocery store? Well, it’s the one I want to try most. So much for that diet I was contemplating! It can wait til New Years.
