Christian McCaffrey’s Girlfriend Reacts To His Trade From Panthers
Being a fan of any professional sports franchise is, by nature, an agonizing roller coaster ride. Your emotions are constantly in an up-and-down cycle because your team is always on that cycle. Here are the phases of any team: building the team, success of the team, and failure/rebuilding of the team. In the time we’ve lived here, we’ve now seen the cycle repeat. Not long after we arrived in town, Cam Newton was drafted. He was an amazing, dynamic athlete and with him as the foundation, The Carolina Panthers built a Super Bowl contending team. We as fans enjoyed several years of success. Then, Cam got hurt. The fortunes of the team turned. And now, it’s time to rebuild. Step one of that rebuilding process began in earnest last week. Christian McCaffrey (when healthy) is one of the best players in the NFL. The Panthers traded him to the San Francisco 49ers for a stockpile of draft picks last week.
It occurred to me yesterday, while watching McCaffrey play in a game for the Niners just days after the trade, how weird the life of a player and his family must be in this situation. Think about it. On Wednesday morning, he was preparing for the Panthers game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On Friday afternoon he was in San Francisco preparing for the Niners game against The Kansas City Chiefs. Bizarre. And how about the players family? Christian’s girlfriend, former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo posted a touching reel to Instagram.
The reel is captioned: “This city stole my heart and I’ll never forget the memories and people who made the last 3+ years so special,” she wrote. “I’ll miss you all so much and you’ll always hold a special place in my heart. I’m so proud of you Christian! Seeing your light shine is one of my favorite things in life and I’m beyond excited and grateful for this next chapter in Cali, the place I’ve called home for the last 8 years. Niners Nation, let’s go!” In a word? Classy.
