Starbucks Debuts Holiday Cups
When Starbucks debuts holiday cups each year, it’s just one more tradition of the season. The first holiday cups hit stores in 1997. The original set of cups looked like gifts wrapped in jewel tones of magenta, sapphire and emerald. The next year we remember purple cups. They introduced the candy apple red cup in 1999. Check out designs through the years here. All across the nation, coffee drinkers look forward to the chain swapping everyday cups for the more cheerful, decorative ones. The four holiday cups for 2022 bear the theme names “Gift-Wrapped Magic, “Frosted Sparkle,” “Ornament Wonder” and “Cozy Evergreen.” The design features a blank gift tag on the back of each. According to Starbucks creative director Gary Jacobson, the company thinks of the cups as “little gifts.” So, when Starbucks debuts holiday cups this year, customers will enjoy the “gift” of cheer in a cup.
And, it’s also time for seasonal flavored beverages from Starbucks. Guests will have a chance to choose Peppermint Mochas, Caramel Brulee Lattes, Chestnut Praline Lattes and more. As far as treats go, Starbucks offers Reindeer Cake Pops, Sugar Plum Cheese Danish, The Snowman Cookie and more. The company also announced the “communal cup program” to be up and running by 2025. As part of the program, customers borrow a reusable cup and return it at the next visit. After a professional cleaning, the cups go to other customers, and so on. Starbucks is working on incentives to entice customers to join in. Whatever your beverage of choice…cheers!
