After the pandemic are people driving carelessly?

Has anyone noticed that people are driving radically these days? Insurance companies say that at least 80% of drivers consider other drivers are more aggressive. The influx of complaints of reckless drivers started after the pandemic stay-at-home orders. Some conspiracy theorists say people are acting strange after taking the Covid Vaccine. Why do you think drivers are more agitated when they’re driving? Do you drive at least 10 minutes over the speed limit or eat while driving? Some of our behaviors while driving date back to our teen years of multitasking at the wheel.

New research shows that fewer cars are driving on the roadways, but careless driving has increased. In North Carolina, the maximum penalty for your first reckless driving offense is a $1,000 fine and up to 30 days in jail. If you are a repeat offender or there were contributing factors, you could pay more and spend up to 60 days in jail. Under certain conditions, you could have your license suspended or revoked. Attorneys define reckless driving as:

Running a red light
Running a stop sign
Aggressive and careless lane changes
Tailgating (following the car in front too closely)
Illegal passing
Street or highway racing
Failing to yield right of way when lawfully required
