Lydia’s Loft Prom Closet Is Back In North Carolina With Free Dresses
It’s that time of year again. Not only is it Spring break, it’s prom season for many. And, once again Lydia’s Prom Closet is back offering up free dresses and accessories for prom attendees. According to Charlotte On The Cheap, Lydia’s Loft Prom Closet is located on the 3rd floor of the Education Building in the First Baptist Church on Old Statesville Road in Huntersville. The event has been a tradition for 13 years now and kicked off in February. So, those with upcoming proms can take the worry out of the cost by shopping Lydia’s Prom Closet for everything from dresses to shoes, jewelry, accessories and even suits. Plus, all the items come from donations and are absolutely free to shoppers. And, the website says there’s no appointment necessary and no referrals required. The staff is made up of volunteers who organize Lydia’s Prom Closet to make shopping easier.
In fact, this event reminds me of a similar one we hosted for several years in connection with our radio station. We took generous donations from the public. Kind people all over the community dropped gently worn dresses at dry cleaning partners who cleaned them like new again. Our crew sorted and labeled the gowns by size before setting them up in a space resembling a department store. It was amazing to see the joy a simple dress brought to the attendees. Prom can sometimes be cost prohibitive for many. But, that should never get in the way of anyone enjoying this special night. That’s why I applaud organizations like Lydia’s Loft Prom Closet for removing that obstacle. So, visit them every Saturday through May 6th from 9 a.m. to noon and shop from thousands of dresses and accessories. Visit the website or follow on socials for more.
