Where’s My Refund-Charlotte North Carolina Woman Fights To Get 2018 Tax Refund
Ah, the dreaded tax day looms upon us every April. This year’s deadline is April 18. And, those who are lucky enough to expect a refund sometimes visit the IRS site asking “where’s my refund?” Well, one Charlotte, North Carolina woman continues to fight for her refund from 2018.
According to WBTV, Stephanie Smith has yet to receive the nearly $700 due from her 2018 return. And, the problem arose because the IRS reportedly sent the money to the wrong bank account. She said she first realized the mistake after trying to track down a stimulus payment.
Then, after visiting the IRS site she noticed the payment electronically deposited into an account she’s never had. So, once again this Charlotte woman asks, “where’s my refund?” Furthermore, upon looking into the $1200 stimulus mistake Smith noticed her 2018 refund went to the same account. WBTV says Smith went through all the channels to unravel the mistake. Although she finally received her $1200 stimulus payment, the 2018 $700 refund debacle remains unresolved.
Of course, Smith says she will get in touch with local representatives to seek help with the matter. However, the “where’s my refund” question is one she continues to ask. And, I know firsthand how frustrating matters like this can be. I was once in a similar situation.
Many years ago there was a problem with the IRS leaving me to ask “where’s my refund?” I won’t go into too many personal details, but it was an identity mix up. And, my refund went to someone I never met. It took months and months to straighten out. In my experience, the IRS was less than cooperative and even argumentative. And, I eventually got resolution after having to prove identity through handwriting samples, stopping just short of hiring an attorney. So, I wish this Charlotte, North Carolina woman well!
