South Carolina Strawberry Festival Is This Weekend
The South Carolina Strawberry Festival is this weekend in Fort Mill, and this one has it all.
The all-ages festival runs 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Walter Elisha Park, 345 North White St. in historic Fort Mill, South Carolina. Its close proximity to Charlotte makes it a spring festival favorite.
As you might expect, the festival features the region’s spring strawberry crop, and food vendors will be putting their best strawberry-centric foods on sale. From strawberry barbecue sauce to strawberry shaved ice to deep-fried strawberries, you’re sure to find many new ways to enjoy the seasonal berry. Personally, I’m looking forward to the churros with strawberry puree and whipped cream. Beer and wine will also be sold after 2 p.m.
And what would a strawberry festival be without strawberry eating contests? Saturday’s event features two opportunities to show your consumption prowess. From 1-2 p.m. it’s the Strawberry Ice Cream Eating Contest, followed by the Strawberry Donut Eating Contest from 2-3. Sign me up for the donuts!
If music is your thing, the South Carolina Strawberry Festival promises plenty of that. The festival makes use of the Fort Mill Amphitheater and features a full day of musical entertainment. Acts include country, R&B, beach music and Americana. A Billy Joel tribute band is set to take the stage at 8:30, but save some energy for the fireworks at 9:45.
The South Carolina Strawberry Festival also includes a fun zone for all ages, carnival rides, a car show and a cornhole tournament. For more information or for frequently asked questions about the festival, check out the official website.
