You don’t have to look far to find world class beer. It is right under our noses. And sometimes nothing will do, if you are over 21 of course, than a tall frosty glass of delicious brew. North Carolina and South Carolina breweries take world honors for tasty suds.
The Carolinas are becoming known for more than just barbecue places and fish camps. Sugar Creek Brewing Company in Charlotte, North Carolina is now known world wide for their amazing beer. Specifically their Belgian Quad. Sugar Creek Brewing Company brought home a gold medal following the World Beer Cup.
This is no small accomplishment and over a dozen North and South Carolina breweries took home awards. 51 countries competed in the battle of the brews hosted by the nonprofit Brewers Association. North Carolina ranks 28th out of our 50 states for beer consumption per capita. So by and large it is fair to say that beer is a fairly common beverage among adults in our state.
Don’t tell them this but I am a very uncomplicated beer drinker. Give me something light and locally brewed and I am a happy girl.

Is NC's Favorite Beer Your Go-To? Here's The 10 Most Popular Beers In North Carolina
It’s National Beer Day on April 7th! While beer is not my go-to drink I enjoy a cold one at a football game or outdoor summer concert. It helps sets the mood for sure. But for many many people beer is far and away their favorite adult beverage. Craft beer is taking up a larger and larger slice of the market each year. Just look at the sheer number of breweries in Charlotte. And it’s more and more common for bars and restaurants to have more craft beer than domestic options. But it’s still the heavy hitters that have the largest market share. With seemingly unlimited options for beer lovers, what are the most popular? And what are the most popular beers in North Carolina specifically?
Well, our friends at BetCarolina analyzed Google searches for the top 50-selling beers in the United States for the last month. They also pulled results for North Carolina. And I would have guessed Bud Light would have come in at number one. But it didn’t quite make it. Also noticeable absent was my favorite beer Corona. Though it’s a different import that tops the list. That’s right, it’s not even a domestic beer that is the most in-demand in NC.
