Texas High School Delays Graduation After Only A Few Students Qualify
A high school in Texas has postponed its graduation ceremony after only five students met the requirements to earn a diploma.
Superintendent Darryl Henson said five Marlin High School students will have to wait to graduate. WSAZ-TV says they are among a senior class of 33. But they will now have to wait until at least 12 of the failed teens can make up the credits they need to graduate.
Henson said “School officials are currently working with students who stand the best chances of turning their grades around. Students in Marlin ISD will be held to the same high standard as any other student in Texas.”
For the parents of the five students who earned enough credits to graduate, the postponement is nothing short of a major disappointment. “It’s emotional,” one parent said at a meeting with administrators on Wednesday. “They get their hopes up: ‘I’m graduating next week! I’m at Six Flags!”
