Run A Race And Grab A Brew At This Upcoming Event At The Whitewater Center In North Carolina
CHARLOTTE, NC - APRIL 14: Michal Smolen celebrates as he finishes his final run in the men's K1 of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials for Whitewater Slalom at the U.S. National Whitewater Center on April 14, 2012 in Charlotte, North Carolina. (Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)
We are fortunate to have the U.S. National Whitewater Center right in our backyard in the Carolinas. And, there’s one thing for sure. They always plan a slate of events throughout the year that appeal to folks of all ages and skill levels. And, the upcoming Whitewater Center “Brew Dash Trail Race” is certainly something that fits that bill.
Hey, I’m not saying I’m an Olympic level athlete. In fact, I really don’t run at all unless I’m being chased. But, I’ve muddled through my share of 5K events. And, I think I could complete the Whitewater Center 6k knowing that refreshing brews awaited as the reward. And, by the way, for you over achievers there’s also a 12k.
The event site says the Whitewater Center Brew Dash Trail Race is a run on the center trails rewarded with a selection of post-race craft beers brewed by Charlotte breweries. The details and registration are all on the website. But, the event takes place Saturday, June 17 at 8 a.m. And, actual awards are given to the top 3 male/female finishers in different age groups in both the 6k and 12k.
As far as the breweries involved in the Whitewater Center Brew Dash Trail Race, you might recognize some of your favorites from the list. A couple I noticed from my Sunday Fun Day jaunts are Birdsong Triple Track Lager and Devil’s Logic North Main IPA. The full list is on the website. Registration includes one 16 oz. beer or four 4 oz. samples for racers 21 and over with valid ID.
And, be sure to visit the U.S. National Whitewater Center website for more on all the events planned this summer and throughout the rest of the year.
