New “Mayor” Of This North Carolina Town Is A Real Bulldog When He Takes Charge
I think we grow tired of being bombarded daily by the ugly side of politics. And, whether it’s local or national, it sometimes tends to be the thing we most want to tune out. However, just outside of Charlotte, the North Carolina town of Mooresville has a new “mayor” I think anyone can get behind. And, when I say he’s a “real bulldog,” I’m not talking about his take charge attitude. He is, in fact, an English Bulldog.
Elmer, the English Bulldog, recently took over his new role after an announcement at a town event. PetHelpful says he follows the first dog mayor of Mooresville, “Buttercup” the Corgi. The “Dog Mayor” campaign started on social media organized by The Town of Mooresville Youth Group.
And, as it turned out, of the dogs posted during the campaign, “Elmer” got the most likes. The town of Mooresville dog mayors serve one-year terms. So, it’s up to Elmer to shake things up during his 12-months.
And, obviously, this whole thing is just meant to be a bit of lighthearted fun. But, if nothing else dogs brighten people’s day. So, it probably couldn’t hurt to elect more furry friends to office even if it’s just for ceremonial purpose. But, who knows, maybe Elmer could be helpful when it comes to some of the duties of the elected office.
I took a look at the office duties online, and I think Elmer the English Bulldog Mayor would certainly help the community communicate and provide support in times of crisis. However, I’m sure the current Mayor still feels pretty secure in his office with no threat from Elmer. But, it still gives us a good smile and a laugh!
