Sunflowers Are In Full Bloom All Over North Carolina And Here’s Where You Can Pick Them For Free
‘Tis that time of year again. Sunflowers are in full bloom all over North Carolina and South Carolina. And, did you know there’s lots of places allowing you to take pictures and even cut your own flowers for free? This caught my eye because there’s one such spot for sunflower picking in our old stomping grounds in Monroe, North Carolina. Charlotte On The Cheap points out it’s just one of many around the Charlotte area. Monroe Sunflowers is at the corner of Harley Street and West Franklin Street. Plus, they even supply clippers if you forget yours.
But, as the article points out there are plenty of other spots for sunflower picking if you aren’t near Monroe. There’s a field near where we used to live in Indian Trail called “Wise Acres” on Hartis Road. This one does require some planning with reservations, and there’s a $3 fee. Plus, this one has options of vases and bouquets for additional costs. And, there’s a possibility of a train ride and even a pizza.
And, I even saw some places we usually went for spooky time during Halloween offering up sunflower picking. Carrigan Farms in Mooresville and Kersey Valley in Archdale are two such spots. As a friend of ours used to point out when we took the kids to visit these places for pumpkins, “It’s ‘agri-tainment’ at it’s finest.” And, check out the full list for plenty of other spots around Charlotte, Weddington, Waxhaw and more. Of course, some do charge. So, check ahead for details.
Sunflowers are amazing statuesque beauties to behold. They grow 12 to 16 feet typically. But, some on record are as high as 30 feet tall. There are quite a few species. And, they make gorgeous backdrops for photo ops. As a native Texan, we always looked for bluebonnet fields for our photos. But, I absolutely love the color palette of sunflowers.
So, take a look at all that’s available. And, make your plans for sunflower picking and pictures soon!
