Romantic Comedy Filmed In North Carolina Ready For Streaming
North Carolina is no stranger to the big screen. Many TV shows and films seek out picturesque spots in The Tar Heel State for their settings. And, this time Charlotte, specifically, gets the spotlight. Romantic comedy “The Other Zoey” is the latest work to be filmed in and around North Carolina and Charlotte.
According to AXIOS Charlotte, North Carolina romantic comedy, “The Other Zoey,” finds a setting in Myers Park on the campus of Queens University. Also, scenes take place in Blowing Rock at Appalachian Ski Mountain. And, even though the film already released to limited theaters, viewers can now catch it on streaming platforms starting November 10.
So, in reading the plot for “The Other Zoey,” it sounds a tiny bit like those Hallmark movies we hold so dear. In the story, the film’s namesake lead character happens to be a student at Queens University. There’s a love interest with amnesia. Also, we find mistaken identity and a love triangle.
And, take note of a special campus screening Thursday, November 9th at 7 p.m. at the Sarah Belk Gambrell Center. So, if you want to catch this North Carolina romantic comedy before it hits streaming this is a good option. The event is free, but it requires registration for tickets.
Hollywood comes calling often to so many locations in North Carolina. It’s not unusual to spot random celebrities just strolling the streets during filming as was the case with Diane Keaton in Asheville earlier this year filming “Summer Camp” with Alfre Woodard and Kathy Bates. And, of course, The Biltmore Estate in Asheville has seen its fair share of films. Most recently, Hallmark filmed “A Biltmore Christmas.”
So, make sure you take a moment to check out “The Other Zoey.” You might just see someone you know. Or, at the very least, you’ll recognize the scenery and university signs. For more on the latest film set in North Carolina, see the full story on AXIOS Charlotte.
Experts Say These Are The 9 Best Movies Filmed In North Carolina
North Carolina may not be the first state that comes to your mind when you think of film production. And yes we aren’t New York or California but that doesn’t mean some fantastic movies weren’t filmed in North Carolina. While Hollywood gets the glamour and notoriety, plenty of iconic films have been shot all over the United States. And this certainly includes North Carolina. I’m not a movie buff, though I do enjoy watching them from time to time. Mainly when I have the attention span and time! And honestly, the first film that came to my mind when I saw this list, well actually I don’t think it was made in North Carolina at all. And it wasn’t filmed because it’s animated.
My mind instantly went to the Disney classic “Cars”. Even more surprising? I’ve never seen it. I just remember hearing about it when they did the premiere at Charlotte Motor Speedway. But don’t worry, I did think of one that actually shot in North Carolina (and made this list)- Dirty Dancing. I’m sure you know that the classic 80’s film was shot at Lake Lure, NC. But is it the best one to come out of the state? Our friends at BetCarolina have it ranked high, but not first. BetCarolina.com compiled a list of movies filmed in North Carolina and ranked them based on a point system.
This point system uses IMDb rating, Rotten Tomatoes Audience and Critics’ Scores, and Oscars recognition to rank the top 10 movies shot in North Carolina. Did your favorite make the list? Number one is definitely a beloved film North Carolina can be proud of! Keep reading to see the top films. You can read the full study by BetCarolina here.
