Couple Builds Pirate Ship In Their Yard For Halloween
I grew up in a Houston, Texas, neighborhood that was literally world famous for its Christmas decorations. So, it’s not unusual for me to hear of someone going all out for Christmas when it comes to their yard. Honestly, everyone in my life as a child was Clark Griswold, so…
That being said, I’m still not adjusted to folks doing it for Halloween. I love it, but just never used to it. And I can’t imagine living next door to a neighbor with a 40-foot pirate ship in his yard for trick or treating. However, that’s exactly what Massel and Braxton Kirwan have done.
KHOU-TV quotes Massel, “I remember when I was a kid there was that one house, right, and it really left an impression on you and we’re hoping to be that one house,” Uh…mission accomplished. The planning started in June and family members have flown in and worked 8-hour days the last couple of days to bring this vision to life.
The pirate ship is 40-feet-long and is complete witha captain, cannons, a treasure chest and a few surprises. including authentic “smells” that give add to the sensory experience.
Massel and Braxton Kirwan’s Houston neighborhood was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and they look at their Halloween crazy as something their community can rally around and find collective pleasure in.
