Costco’s Giant Pecan Pie Returns
Costco’s giant pecan pie returns this holiday! We visited Costco last week and remarked at the size of their pumpkin and pecan pies. The Costco pies weigh in at around 4 pounds for the pecan variety. The pumpkin pie we saw probably weighed about the same. The price we saw for pumpkin was $5. In my opinion, that’s quite a deal. When you take into account the time spent shopping for ingredients, the cost of groceries and preparation, five bucks is a steal, actually. According to mashed, Martha Stewart explained why pies are the official dessert of the holidays. She says Thanksgiving became the celebration of food we know today in conjunction with the British immigration to America. So, it makes sense that the British staple found its way onto the American table. Speaking of Martha, here’s how she does it.
Other pie flavors are popular for the holiday. However, pumpkin leads the pack. The number two choice is apple, and pecan pie rounds out the top three. In our house, the only two choices are pumpkin and pecan. Occasionally, we venture into a pumpkin cheesecake or pumpkin pound cake. But, that’s the only variations we tinker with. Consequently, with everything being bigger at Costco, the giant pecan pie remains wildly popular. It’s probably a good idea to grab one before they’re gone.
Furthermore, here’s a little history of the Costco pumpkin pie. They have been using the same recipe for the popular pie since 1987. Costco VP of Baker Operations, Sue McConnaha , developed the recipe to be duplicated at the warehouse’s bakeries nationwide. Surprisingly, they make the crust in house. However, the filling mix ingredients remain secret. But, we do know the pumpkins come from Illinois. And, with its popularity, it’s unlikely to change.
Well, there you have it. Everything you need to know to prepare for Costco’s giant pecan pie return. Now, let’s talk cookies!
