North Carolina Woman With Touching Story Featured On HGTV Home Renovation Show
So, I was hanging at the beach last weekend in my friend’s condo. It was a lazy Sunday afternoon, and she was just doing some work on her computer. I decided to check out what was on HGTV. One of their home renovation shows started. And, when they showed the workplace of the woman they chose to help, I noticed something. The address on the building read “North Tryon St.” That’s when I realized the show was taking place in Charlotte and featured a North Carolina woman on the episode “Build It Forward.”
Theressa Freeman’s story was quite touching. Her mother passed away 27 years ago. And, she is living in her mother’s home along with her 15-year old twin grandsons. Of course, the house is very sentimental to her. So, she asked the show to honor her request to leave what once was her mother’s room in tact. But, in the end she decided to pray and take a leap of faith, trusting strangers to treat the space with proper respect. And, it worked out beautifully.
The show, in conjunction with Lowe’s Home Improvement, spotlights community heroes to surprise with makeovers. And, Freeman is a hero. She helps others at Hope Haven, assisting folks impacted by substance abuse. As part of the renovation project, Hope Haven also received some sprucing up as well.
But, as with most renovations, problems arose. The permit process encountered a problem when they discovered the home sat in a flood zone. However, after agreeing to literally lift the home several feet, the project went ahead.
And, it turned out gorgeous, making Freeman and her grandsons very happy. There was even a special touch when the show presented her with a painting by a local artist featuring her mother’s favorite flowers. I’m so glad we stumbled upon the special episode where this North Carolina woman was featured. Read more about the show on HGTV.com
