Family Gives Daughter Lump Of Coal For Christmas
From the time we’re old enough to know the difference between being ‘bad’ or ‘good,’ we are made aware of the consequences at Christmas for not being the best boy or girl we can be. That’s right. One finds a lump of coal in a stocking. Do you know how this got started? I didn’t. Before we go further with this epic parental prank at Christmas, it’s important to find out, I think. According to a Bing search, the origin is Dutch. In Holland, children would put their clogs by the fireplace before Christmas, and when a child was bad, they got a lump of coal, but if they were good, they received Christmas gifts of small toys, cookies, or candy.
That leads us to this family’s viral video. Let me say first that although I totally admire the commitment to prank, I do not have the heart to do this on Christmas morning. I wish I did, but I don’t. So, here’s the deal. This family decides it’s time to teach their young daughter a lesson in behavior on Christmas morning. There’s the excitement of enthusiastically opening a wrapped Christmas package only to discover a note from Santa and a few pieces of coal.
The older sister posted the viral video. Not surprising, the internet has exploded with criticism of the parents. However, big sis points out the exercise was merely intended as a lesson. The girl did get her desired Ugg boots.
There Are The Most Insulting Christmas Gifts You Can Give
Gifting can be hard. Full disclosure I still have several people I have no idea what to get for Christmas. But there are some things that should never be considered. Have you ever received a crumpled 5 dollar bill in a Christmas card? Or soap? Well, CardSnacks surveyed over 1,000 people to learn more about their experiences giving and receiving what many would consider “insulting” gifts. Some were given intentionally others may have had good intentions. But good intentions don’t always mean well received.
I was surprised to find out that 57% of people say they have received an insulting gift. And 79% of those feel the gift was intended to be insulting. Cash was identified as one of the most insulting gifts. It can seem last minute, shows a lack of creativity, and can give implications of mismanaging money.
Key Findings
- One in three people said they would be inclined to give an insulting gift on purpose.
- Cash was flagged as the most insulting gift for reasons ranging from lack of personalization to implications of mismanaging money or seeming last-minute.
- Relationships after an insulting gift exchange were most damaged when the recipient feigned excitement about the gift.
