WASHINGTON, DC - JUNE 11: General view during March for Our Lives 2022 on June 11, 2022 in Washington, DC.
WCNC is reporting that North Carolina students at Garrigner High School are planning to walk out of class to protest gun violence. The protest is planned for Wednesday, April 5th. Additionally, WCNC says that Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (the district the school is in) has been made aware in advance. The district and school will take precautions to insure the walkout is handled safely for all involved.
This comes just over a week after the shooting at a private Christian school in Nashville, TN. In the incident, a former student claimed the lives of 3 9-year-olds and 3 adults. The Charlotte area has seen the 2019 shooting at UNC Charlotte as well as increased instances of students bringing guns to schools over the last few years.
Garringer High School is located on Eastway Drive in Charlotte. There is no word on if other North Carolina students plan to protest gun violence today or in the future. Though I personally doubt this will be the only action we see taken.
