Popular South Carolina Bakery For Custom Cakes Reopens In New Location
My interest always sparks when I read about a bakery with homemade red velvet cupcakes. That’s one of my all time favorite treats. Honestly, I think it’s the cream cheese frosting that hooks me every time. But, a popular South Carolina bakery known for custom cakes and red velvet celebrates reopening in a new location soon.
According to Yahoo News, Sweet GG’s Bakery found a new home in Columbia’s Five Points. And, the popular South Carolina bakery celebrates their grand opening April 22. The former location on Fort Jackson Blvd. served up delicious treats and unbelievable custom cake creations since 2021. But, co-owner Nayo Harvin’s baked goods that started as a hobby became something people started requesting and paying for in 2012. Her original location closed in the Fall of 2022 when new tenants bought the building.
And, since then Sweet GG’s owners Nayo and Devon Harvin worked to get the Five Points building ready. Although, baking isn’t Nayo’s only profession. She is also a professor at South Carolina State University. But, like a lot of us do, she learned baking from her grandmothers. In fact, the popular South Carolina bakery name honors Nayo’s grandmothers, Gertrude and Geneva. However, Nayo’s talent exceeds many of the typical bakers. Her custom cakes are incredibly detailed and beautiful.
So, what can visitors expect during the grand opening event of this popular South Carolina Bakery? Sweet GG’s Bakery plans a DJ on site, giveaways and hourly drawings for gift cards. And, they are donating a portion of sales to Ronald McDonald House in Columbia. Plus, customers can save on baked goods by bringing in Ronald McDonald House wish list items.
Just a glance at this week’s Sweet GG’s Bakery menu, I have favorites already. I spy Red Velvet Layer Cake, Lunch Lady Butter Cookies and Cheesecake Brownies. Yes, yes and yes. Visit their website for menus and more info about the grand opening.
