Adventure Awaits With This Wild Food Foraging Tour In A Beautiful North Carolina Setting
Many years ago I fell in love with the landscape of the mountain areas of North Carolina. I visited the Biltmore Estate and Grove Park Inn in Asheville more times than I can count. But, I had no idea this kind of adventure existed. And, it’s something I stumbled upon by accident while browsing the Grove Park website for upcoming activities. It’s called “wild food foraging tour,” and I’m curious.
I suppose if you are familiar with the concept, you probably know Alan Muskat. The site describes him as “famed forager and educator,” and he founded “No Taste Like Home.” This experience centers around learning how to safely identify, gather and serve wild mushrooms and other plant life found as you hike through natural wooded settings.
So, if you consider yourself a foodie and adventurer or just a curious by-stander, it sounds like lots of unique fun. The foraging and private tour takes guests through Western North Carolina and offers a brief cooking lesson and tasting. And, here’s what intrigues me. After the foraging experience, guests take what they found to the guest service desk. Then, the chef turns it into an appetizer for you to enjoy as part of a meal at Vue 1913.
Now, if that sounds like more adventure than you’re up for, there’s another option. Take the “Wild Food Stroll.” And, in this experience guests literally “stroll” the scenery of Sunset Mountain for an education in foraging. However, the experts do the work for you. And, what they find is given to the chef to prepare the appetizer to go with your meal. I love this idea!
And, all the info, details and links to schedule your experience are on the Omni Hotels website. Regardless of what you decide, the trip is beautiful. So, enjoy!
