North Carolina House Passes Punishment for Street Racing
It has become an issue especially in bigger cities in North Carolina. Street racing in uptown Charlotte or in the Southpark area has become a problem. It is dangerous and can cause traffic tie ups for hours. Now the North Carolina house has passed punishment for street racing. Here is what happens now.
Street takeovers usually involve spectators, people that block off traffic just to watch the chaos that almost always ensues.
The provisions would make street racing a class A 1 misdemeanor. That offense is punishable by a $1,000 fine and is the state’s most serious misdemeanor according to our source, The Charlotte Observer. If there is another offense within two years the punishment is considerably more. It would then be considered a class H felony. Offenders would have a fine of of twice the value of the vehicle used in the incident.
What about people who facilitate the crime or promote it on social media. They would be in trouble as well. The bill would create a Class A1 misdemeanor for that offense. The North Carolina House of Representatives passes punishment for street racing.
The bill now returns to the senate. To learn more get all the details from the Charlotte Observer right here.
