Beloved Buffalo Bills Charlotte Rooftop Bar Closing
For Charlotte area Buffalo Bills fans, a new home is now needed as The Fairwood 226 is closing. This is the QC’s “official” Buffalo Bills game watching spot. There’s nothing like watching a game at a “team bar.” Last weekend, I have a good friend and NC State grad whose ACC Championship winning game watching experience was made all the better by being surrounded by fellow Wolfpack faithful at Caswell Station (bigtime NC State bar).
Last fall, I remember being at Myrtle Beach and walking into Wild Wing Cafe on a Sunday. I was immediately taken aback by the literally hundreds of Cleveland Browns fans that had taken over the place. Come to find out, that’s a regular Sunday thing there. The Fairwood 226 has been that spot of mutual fellowship for Buffalo Bills fans in the Charlotte area, and now it is closing. A couple of New Yorkers opened the rooftop bar and restaurant four years ago by a couple of New Yorkers with the express purpose of being a spot for fellow “refugees” to watch the Bills.
Now just because The Fairwood 226 is closing, doesn’t necessarily mean that the Bills tradition will end. On the spot’s Instagram page a new ownership group is teased. Although this usually means a new name, it does not always mean a new concept. The Fairwood 226 is closing, but it’s not going out without a bang. According to The Charlotte Observer, the game day haven is holding a “Farewell Fairwood” party from noon-1 a.m. on Saturday, March 30 before the transition occurs.
The official word of The Fairwood 226’s closing can be found on their Facebook post below: It is with bittersweet anticipation that we announce the last day of business for The Fairwood 226 will be on Saturday, March 30th, 2024. The Fairwood has provided us and our guests with loads of laughter and memories that will never be forgotten. We would love to build on those memories and want to extend our greatest appreciation to our customers for four amazing years in business. We invite you all to join us in celebrating the end of this chapter, with a “Farewell Fairwood” party happening 12pm-1am on Saturday, March 30th as our final hurrah. We are very excited to welcome a new ownership group at 226 Fairwood Ave. More details to follow!
The Fairwood 226 is closing, and for all its Buffalo Bills fans, I hope a new home (or perhaps this old home with a new name) is found soon.
