This North Carolina fire department hires it's first female firefighter in 7 years. Meet Heaven Henning. This 19 year old woman is Morganton Public Safety's newest firefighter. She is the city of Morganton's first full time female firefighter since 2017.

The Beginning Of A Dream

Heaven got her start way back in high school. Of course it wasn't all that way back for Morganton's newest full time female firefighter. She got involved in the fire academy while getting her diploma. She even became a firefighter at Triple Community Fire Department. She says this in a statement to wsoctv.com, “For me, it has always been the service aspect that I enjoy. I want to help people in any way that I can”.

Leading the Way For Other Women

Henning also encourages other women to enter male dominated fields. “If you listen to what you know is right that this is your dream you can do anything you really want to do,” according to wsoctv.com. Engineer Jose Bao had this to say about Morganton's new firefighter, “She’s what we’re looking for in a firefighter, Highly motivated, wants to do the job and wants to learn. And those are the biggest things you need as a firefighter.”

Henning has a little more training to go. She has her certification as a firefighter but will undergo an additional 240 hours of training. Being a volunteer lit the fire for Heaven Henning. “Just being around the camaraderie, and the training, and just how much they love their job, and just seeing people love what they do,” a quote published by wsoctv.com.
