Walmart made a big announcement to its workers on Tuesday. Hundreds of people will have their roles “trimmed” and most corporate workers will be moved to one of three main offices. Walmart laying off hundreds of workers according to our source WSOC TV in Charlotte.

In a memo sent today (Tuesday),Walmart Chief People Officer Donna Morris reportedly says the changes are due to a decision to bring corporate employees back to the company’s headquarters in Arkansas post epidemic. In a quote published by wsoctv.com Morris says,“We believe that being together, in person, makes us better and helps us collaborate, innovate and move even faster,” We also believe it helps strengthen our culture as well as grow and develop our associates.”

Those Impacted By The Layoffs and Relocations

This change will affect people primarily working remotely to relocate to a central hub. Remote workers have been given till July 1 to chose to either change their remote status or leave with severance. And that’s not all, as reported from our source, Channel 9 in Charlotte. “In addition, some parts of our business have made changes that will result in a reduction of several hundred campus roles,” Morris said Tuesday. “While the overall numbers are small in percentage, we are focused on supporting each of our associates affected by these changes.”

Working remotely is growing exponentially in popularity and opportunities. While it’s not for me, at least not 100% of the time, many many people are fans. In fact, I know several people who would never consider an office job anymore. And for a lot of people, the new year can mean looking for a new job. If you’re in North Carolina and in the market for a remote job, FlexJobs has released its 10th annual “Top 100 Companies to Watch for Remote Jobs” list.

In the study, they note that between 2021 and 2022, “FlexJobs saw a 20% increase in the number of remote job listings on the site, compared with just 12% the previous year. And with the wider adoption of remote work came more variety in job titles and career levels. While a majority of positions were for experienced-level jobs (62%), manager and senior-level roles claimed 32% of the remote job listings. The remaining 6% of postings were attributed to entry-level jobs.”
